Troubleshooting NourishNot

Quick steps for common NourishNot issues, including missing history, AI Coach errors, notifications, location, Sleep and Mood entries, and connection problems.

Before trying destructive troubleshooting: Do not clear storage, clear app data, or uninstall NourishNot as an early step if there is history you want to keep. These actions can remove local app state—especially history that was never protected.

My history is missing

  • Check that the device has a working network connection.
  • If the history was protected, confirm that you chose the same Google identity.
  • Restoration may still be synchronizing; avoid starting it repeatedly.
  • If restoration says it completed but a screen did not refresh, close and reopen NourishNot once.
  • Do not clear app data while investigating.

Anonymous history that was never protected may not be recoverable after all local installation state is lost. See Restoring Your NourishNot History.

Google history protection or restore is not working

  • Confirm internet access, then try the action once more.
  • When the Google account chooser appears, select the identity you intended to use.
  • If no account is offered, confirm that a Google account is available on the device.
  • If NourishNot says it found history, choose Restore my history to continue or Cancel to leave the current local history unchanged.
  • Avoid repeated rapid sign-in attempts while an earlier request may still be finishing.

Google account selection is shown through Android’s credential interface. If that interface is temporarily unavailable, wait until the device has a stable connection and retry once.

AI Coach did not respond

  • Check your connection.
  • Use Try Again, Retry, or the resend action if shown. The app can retry the original message without requiring you to type it again.
  • If the service remains unavailable, wait and try later rather than sending the same message repeatedly.

AI Coach responses are AI-generated. The Coach is not medical, nutritional, therapeutic, crisis, or emergency care.

My Sleep entry looks wrong

  1. Open Sleep Log.
  2. Select the date.
  3. Adjust Hours and Minutes.
  4. Review the separate restful-sleep star rating.
  5. Select Save, or use Remove to delete the saved date.

The per-day editor changes the selected entry; it does not change the Sleep Log calendar’s navigation.

I cannot enter the Sleep duration I want

Hours use separate minus and plus buttons and move by one hour. Minutes move only through 00, 15, 30, and 45. They roll across the hour, so 7h 45m plus 15 minutes becomes 8h 00m, and 8h 00m minus 15 minutes becomes 7h 45m.

A new entry starts at your configured minimum sleep requirement when one is available. An existing date opens with that date’s saved duration.

My Daily Mood is wrong

  1. Open Mood Log.
  2. Select the date.
  3. Look for the visible checkmark beside the mood currently saved for that date.
  4. Choose the correct mood. The selection is saved for that date when chosen.

Daily Mood is separate from the emotion or urge selected during a No check-in.

Location Sharing is not working

Two controls must allow device location:

  1. Location Sharing must be On in NourishNot Settings.
  2. Android location permission must allow approximate or precise access.

Android permission can be revoked while the app-level switch remains On, and the app-level switch can be Off while Android permission remains granted. NourishNot’s core features continue to work without location.

I turned Location Sharing off but old location is still visible

Turning Location Sharing Off stops location use for new approved paths; it does not automatically erase older saved history. Deletion is a separate action. Settings can remove saved Home Location and location values from urge history on the device, but previously exported files or uploaded location aggregates may remain.

Notifications or reminders are not arriving

  • Confirm Reminders are enabled in NourishNot Settings.
  • Confirm Android notifications are allowed for NourishNot and that its Reminders notification channel is not blocked.
  • On supported Android versions, allow NourishNot to schedule exact alarms when prompted; normal reminders cannot be scheduled without that capability.
  • If the phone recently restarted, changed time or timezone, or updated NourishNot, open the app and review reminder status if notifications still do not resume.

Sleep reminders can be snoozed for one hour up to the available retry limit. Rebooting does not preserve a temporary snooze, although normal enabled reminders are reconciled after supported device lifecycle changes.

The app says I answered Yes too recently

This is an intentional one-hour Yes cooldown, not an error. The dialog shows the approximate remaining time. No remains available; wait until the cooldown expires before recording another Yes.

Reports look incomplete

Reports depend on what was recorded. Missing dates produce partial history, and restored older history may use summarized information. Exact historical event time or location may no longer be available. Treat report patterns as observations, not diagnoses or proof of cause.

My Awards changed after restoring history

Restored history can cause earned Awards to reappear or refresh as NourishNot reconciles supported historical activity. This can include regular, PRO, retired, or legacy Awards that were already earned.

The app seems offline or data will not sync

Check your connection and retry after it becomes stable. Some local logging can remain available offline, but AI Coach, history protection, account validation, restoration, and server synchronization require connectivity. Do not repeatedly clear or recreate local state to force a sync.

I changed phones

If possible, protect your history before losing access to the old installation. On the new phone, use the same Google identity and follow any restore prompt. Unprotected anonymous history may not be recoverable after its original local state is lost.
